Our Program
Bible: ACSI Purposeful Design
We learn about the Bible, Bible Study Tools, God's characteristics and The Trinity, that we were created in God’s Image and our need for a Savior, we are the Body of Christ: the Salt and Light, importance of Prayer, time with God, staying Strong in Truth, Stewardship, and Evangelism.
Students have weekly bible verses to memorize.
English/Language Arts/Writing:
Grammar: Fix-It Grammar: IEW: Institute for Excellence in Writing (Book 2: Country Mouse and City Mouse)
Grammar skills taught are Indenting, Nouns, Homophones, Ends marks, Articles, Quotations, Pronouns, Who-which clauses, Action verbs and helping verbs, Identifying strong verbs, Apostrophes to show ownership, Contractions, Adjectives and comparative adjectives, Capitals, Adverbs, Prepositions, Coordinating conjunctions, and Clauses
Writing: IEW: Institute for Excellence in Writing: Teaching Structure and Style in Writing- 2nd Edition
Writing skills taught are Note making and Outlines, Summarizing from Notes, Summarizing Narrative Stories, Summarizing a Reference, Writing from Pictures, Library Research Papers, Creative Writing, Essay Writing, and Formal Critiques.
Reading: Bob Jones University Anthology Books
We explore vocabulary, comprehension questions, summaries, character studies, and graphic organizers with our literature units. We also use the Accelerated Reading program.
Literature Units:
Sarah, Plain and Tall, Medallion, and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Spelling: Bob Jones curriculum
We use a variety of teacher-created spelling activities to learn 20 spelling words every week.
Mathematics: Bob Jones curriculum
We learn Place Value and Money, Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers, Fractions, Multiplication and Division Facts, Decimals, Multiplication: 1 Digit Multipliers,
Geometry: Plane Figures, 1 Digit Divisors, Data and Graphs,
Customary Measurement and Time, Multiplication: 2 Digit Multipliers, Fractions: Addition and Subtraction, Metric Measurement, Division: 2 Digit Divisors, Geometry: 3 Dimensional Figures, and Pre-Algebra
Science: ACSI Purposeful Design
In Science we explore Life, Heat, Light, Forces, Matter, Layers of the Earth, the Universe, and Human Body Systems
Social Studies/History/Geography: Master Books Curriculum: America’s Story
In History we study the Civil War, Life of Abraham Lincoln, America’s Centennial Birthday, Transcontinental Railroad, The Wild West, Industry Boom, Life of Helen Keller, American Inventions and Inventors, Life of Thomas Edison, American’s Victorian Age, American Immigration, New Century, and The American Dream
Field Trips:
We visit the Lansing capital and museum and Charleton Village.
Enrichment Classes:
Art, Computers, Music (twice a week), P.E. (twice a week), Library, and attend weekly Chapel
Fourth Grade Extras:
The fourth graders participate in the Christmas play and Spelling Bee, learn how to play the recorder, and help the younger students by being safeties.
